The hilltop citadel rests upon excavations of the earlier Etruscan inhabitants from the 7^th century BC. Once in center of the city, visitors can tour Orvieto's Duomo encrusted in exterior mosaics and a myriad of Gothic spires. Signorelli's Renaissance fresco cycle of the Last Judgement, inside the Duomo, inspired Michelangelo's work for the Sistine Chapel. After a stop at a typical Trattoria we will visit St. Patryk's Well, completed in 1537. It is 53 meters (about 175 ft.) deep and, in the interior, two double-spiralled stairwells were made, planned for easier transportation of water.
