During your transfer we propose you to explore the east side of Tuscany and to merge in the Umbria Region visiting the  town of Arezzo and the village of Castiglione del lago on the Trasimento Lake.

Arezzo’s origins are lost in the very ancient past but was surely an important Etruscan city, and was later part of Rome. In the Middle Ages, Arezzo was a free and powerful commune, often ruled by its Bishops who were Counts of the Holy Roman Empire. The city was frequently at war, with Siena and Florence and, in 1384, it was finally subjugated to Florentine rule. From then onwards Arezzo ‘s history runs parallel to the history of Florence and to the fortunes of Tuscany.

In Arezzo, you will have the opportunity to visit the principal buildings and monuments, that retains all the fascination of its illustrious past and contain a treasure of unique Medieval and Renaissance masterpieces created by artists such as Cimabue, Andrea della Robbia, Giorgio Vasari, whose home is a national museum in town, and Piero della Francesca, of whom you can see the recently restored famous fresco cycle on the Legend of the True Cross. Arezzo was the birthplace of the great medieval Italian poet Petrarch, and it became internationally famous as the backdrop to a widely acclaimed movie when some of the most beautiful corners of the city’s monumental centre formed the setting for scenes in Roberto Benigni’s film “Life is Beautiful”, three-time Oscar winner in 1999. Arezzo still express itself in the aromas and tastes of the culinary tradition, in the quality of handcrafts, in the genuine sense of hospitality to tourists, and in the gold jewelry-making expertise for which Arezzo is known worldwide as the “city of gold”. Arezzo is city of the jousting tournament Giostra del Saracino that takes place in the main square in June and September, and every first weekend of the month houses the most interesting outdoor Antique Market.

Lake Trasimeno, in the Umbria Region, is the biggest lake in central Italy, not far from Tuscany. The surrounding hills of olive grows and vineyards provide the idea of a magic place full of history and wellness. The little town of Castiglion del Lago on its eastern shore is a medieval jewel of quaint streets surrounded by the encient city walls, that you will cross for a relaxing stroll or for outdoor activities. The precious food is typically local from the lake, enriched with dishes from nearby Tuscan and Umbrian countryside. You will enjoy it with a glass of wine in the restaurants with a view on the water that during the day takes colors from turquois to gold and dark grey. You will visit the historical Palace of the Della Corgna family, built starting in 1563,  by Ascanio Della Corgna's marquis of Castiglione. The Palace gave hospitality to important figures like Niccolo Macchiavelli and Leonardo Da Vinci. The noble first floor divided into three main parts and is all frescoed. From the Palace you will have access to the old medieval Fortress. You will walk on the walls of this 800 years old elaborate fortification, whose construction, ordered by Frederic II of Swabia, was begun around 1247. He wanted to include it in the defensive system that crossed the whole of Italy. The entire ancient village was destroyed and rebuilt under the supevision of Friar Elia da Cortona, a contemporary of Saint Francis and a former general director of the franciscan order. From the walls you will enjoy an impressive view and you will be conquered by the peaceful feeling of the silent lake crossed by the little boat of local fishermans. If you wish you will be able to enjoy a short boat ride.
